Do you know what date rape drugs are? Date rape drugs are used with the intensions of sexually assaulting an innocent victim. Several drugs fall into this category and when they're used for sexual intentions they're usually slipped into a person's drink when they're not looking. There are a few date rape drugs that are commonly used today and it isn't just women that are targeted, males are too and in all age groups. Not only are these drugs used in date rapes but they are also used with the intentions to physically assault a person or to rob them. When a person has been slipped a date rape drug they become very weak and may even pass out. They don't remember anything and experience confusion as well. There is no way you can defend yourself if you've been slipped one of these drugs and that's what the perpetrator is counting on.
The term 'date rape drug' gets a little confusing because people think that it's someone you're dating that will use these drugs but that isn't necessarily so. Many times it's a total stranger or someone you barely know that intends on sexually assaulting or robbing an innocent person. As stated above, some of these drugs are also used by a lot of young people when they're attending dance clubs or parties or in night clubs to enhance their evening of fun.
Rohypnol Abuse
Rohypnol isn't a legal drug in the U.S. but it is legal in Mexico and in Europe because it's prescribed to treat people with sleep problems and to help with anesthesia before some patients receive surgery. When Rohypnol is found in the United States, it's brought into our country illegally. Even though today a lot of the Rohypnol pills that circulate look grayish-green they still can't be detected in a dark beverage so they can be easily slipped into a drink without your knowledge.
Ketamine Abuse
This is a drug that's primarily used in veterinary practices as an anesthetic and is a legal drug in the U.S. There are various ways ketamine gets into the hands of people who abuse them or perpetrators who intend to use them for robberies or sexual assault. Many times veterinary clinics are robbed and the drug is sold on the streets.
GHB Abuse
GHB is another common date rape drug or club drug that is sometimes used to treat narcolepsy in the United States but isn't a common drug prescribed for this disorder. GHB is a very potent drug and is also manufactured illegally in labs run by drug dealers and is the reason this drug is easy to come by.
