Prison VS Drug Treatment

In a recent poll, average citizens were asked if they would rather see crime offenders that were related to drug related crimes go to prison or drug treatment. The answers were convincing to government officials as most people said they would rather see someone with a drug addiction get the help they need to make sure they won’t be committing these drug related crimes again in the future.

Addiction Recovery

Helping someone to help themselves can be done in a forced drug rehab setting. Making offenders go to prison or drug treatment is an easy choice in today’s world. With so many of the crimes being directly related to drugs, there is no other option but to get these people help and teach them ways to deal with their drug abuse.

Most criminals when given a choice between drug treatment or prison are quick to decide that drug treatments are right for them. They will have to actively participate in their recovery process including all therapy sessions, group and individual, in order to stay in the drug treatment facility instead of going to a correctional institute.

Substance abuse is a growing problem all across America and now all 50 states have implemented a drug court to help alleviate the direct relation to crimes and drugs. People who enter into a treatment center through the court system are constantly monitored and have to answer to the court in their local jurisdiction for the period of time they have been sentenced with.

When people are just simply placed into prison VS drug treatment, they will most likely not get the help they need to deal with the issues that causes people to have a drug addiction. Once released from the correctional institute, most will go right back to their old habits and continue their path of destruction only to end up in the system again to serve even more time and cost our taxpayers even more money in the long run. Sending someone to drug treatment instead of prison will lower the overall costs associated with housing criminals over time.
