Alcohol Detoxification Treatment

There are plenty of alcohol abuse treatment centers in your town or city who can help with you with a good alcohol detoxification treatment program. Unfortunately, alcoholism is very common disease all across America and needs to be treated like any other serious medical condition. However, just because someone uses alcohol on a fairly regular basis, this does not necessarily mean they have an addiction, or are an alcoholic, although regular use can lead to an alcohol addiction. Alcoholism is also a dangerous way of life and if not treated will cause irreparable liver damage, heart disease, eventual kidney failure, among many other serious health conditions.

While alcohol is legal, one must remember that it is technically still a type of poison, and with over indulgence it can still have potentially fatal consequences---especially if taken in large quantities, as occurs with binge drinking, or on a daily, continuous basis. The regular consumption of alcohol damages the brain by destroying brain cells, causes cirrhosis of the liver, damages the heart, can cause damage to the gastrointestinal system, and a host of other physical ailments that can be potentially fatal. It can also create some fairly severe behavioral changes in the individual; including aggression, a developed propensity for physical violence, severe depression and violent mood swings. A person suffering from alcoholism will develop the inability to make rational judgments and this can result in a number of situations where the person puts themselves and others into potentially dangerous situations on a daily basis.

Treatment and detoxification is available through any alcohol and drug rehab center in your town or city. There are generally quite a few to choose from, depending on the size of your city or town, and they can be easily found online or in your local phone directory.

Rehabilitation clinics that offer alcohol detoxification also offer treatment for the psychological addiction that develops. While the physical detox is a necessary step it is not a “cure' in of itself. Without the proper counseling for the psychological issues then it is not likely that the patient will be able to continue to remain sober.

Alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse is usually treated with a 12 step drug and alcohol rehabilitation program—such as is implemented by Alcoholics Anonymous. This treatment program can be categorized into three different levels: physical detoxification, psychological counseling, and social re-integration. With these three levels of treatment a person suffering from alcohol abuse or alcoholism can rehabilitate successfully and move on to live a more productive life.
