Alcohol Detox Referral Rehab

If you suspect that your loved one may be suffering from alcoholism or that you yourself may have some kind of an alcohol addiction problem or alcohol abuse issue then you should first go talk with your local family doctor. Your doctor will be able to talk to you about what makes you suspect you or your loved one has a problem and will ask you certain questions about your drinking. These questions will include things like how often you drink, in what quantities you drink, what do you drink and what times do you drink. This will help your doctor determine the extent of the problem and decide upon which course of action would be the most suitable for you.

Addiction Recovery

Your doctor will usually make a referral for you to see a psychologist or addiction specialist so that they may evaluate your condition further. With an alcohol addiction referral to a psychologist, counsellor, therapist or addiction specialist you also have the chance of being given a rehabilitation referral. Once your situation has been properly diagnosed and evaluated you may be referred to an alcohol rehabilitation clinic or a detox center in order to help you to overcome your addiction. If you are referred to a rehabilitation center then you will have the opportunity to choose from inpatient and outpatient services. If you are referred to a detox center instead of a rehab center your referral means that you will undertake a rapid detox where only the physical presence of the alcohol is removed from your body. This usually means you are to carry on with the therapy sessions that your doctor instigated for you.

With a rehabilitation center referral you can begin your rehabilitation as soon as the appointment has been scheduled for you and you will already be undergoing counselling services form your doctor and being prepared for your rehabilitation process.

If your doctor does not make a referral for you beyond seeing a psychologist it may be because the psychologist has recommended against it and that they feel you are able to overcome the addiction and remove the substances on your own over time with the right counselling help. If you still feel you would rather go to a detox center to completely rid your body of alcohol at once, you can make an appointment on your own at your local alcohol rehabilitation center without a referral from your doctor.
