ADHD Drug Treatment
ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This disorder primarily affects children especially younger ones and can escalate when they are anxious or excited about something. The main difference with ADHD that make sit stand out against normal energetic children’s behaviour is that it is present much longer and occurs in different situations than hyperactivity should do. ADHD can impair the children’s ability to concentrate, study and focus and as a result has a direct negative impact on their social and academic abilities. Thankfully, with the correct ADHD drug treatment program, the child suffering from ADHD can lead a calmer and healthier lifestyle effectively managing their symptoms and the condition as a whole.

The main symptoms of ADHD (or ADD – Attention Deficit Disorder) can be broken down into three main categories of symptoms. The first category of ADHD symptoms are known as Inattentive type symptoms. These include a lack of focus and attention, listening problems, organisational problems, easily distracted, forgetfulness, tendency to lose things and difficulty following instructions.
The next category of symptoms is called the hyperactive or impulsive type. These symptoms of ADHD include fidgeting or squirming, difficulty staying sat down, loud or excessively boisterous playing, excessive running and climbing, constant talking, interrupting, difficulty queuing in a line, answer questions too quickly even before the question has been finished and always seeming to be ready to go/fidgeting/hyperactive behaviour.
The third category of symptoms is known as the combined type and this is the most common of the three different types of symptoms a child with ADHD can have. The combined type has symptoms from both the first two types of ADHD symptoms and many children will display the combined type of symptoms if they suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

There are several different types of medicines or drug treatments that can be used for ADHD. Stimulants are the most common type of ADHD drug treatment and have been used for over 50 years to date. Some stimulants require several doses every 4 hours while others last up to 12 hours. There are no long term side effects with stimulants but there are a few that can occur whilst taking the drugs such as loss of appetite, stomach ache and insomnia. Antidepressants can also be used for the treatment of ADHD but they do have possible side effects so you should talk to your doctor about this before you choose this option.
