Fetal alcohol syndrome has been defined as a child who was born with a pattern of abnormalities and had a mother who drank alcohol while she was pregnant with them.

Currently there is help for those women who are pregnant and have an alcohol problem.  These women can seek out the help of a fetal alcohol syndrome treatment center to get their drinking problem under control.  The sooner a woman who is pregnant can stop drinking the better chances the baby will have for not getting a fetal alcohol syndrome.

The only true way to keep women from giving birth to a baby with a fetal alcohol syndrome is to prevent them from drinking alcohol while they are pregnant.  This can be accomplished if entered into a program of treatment for fetal alcohol syndrome.
